How Important Is How I Choose and Use Essential Oils?

Everyone from Kerry Washington to Gisele Bundchen find them an irreplaceable part of their everyday wellness routine; blends of essential oils are becoming a must-have for modern women who lead the busy lifestyle. If you still don’t have yours in your bathroom or bedroom, then let me be the one to tell you how much goodness you’re missing on.

All those nagging pains caused by exhaustion like headaches, body soreness and overall loss of energy can be cured with the use of the right blends of essential oils instead of pain killers. We all know how beneficial aromatherapy is for a lot of things: relaxation and nurturing leading the list. So, why not have the basic tools for aromatherapy in your own home? I bet you’ll find the few drops of eucalyptus just before bed unbelievably relaxing and beneficial for more things than just good night sleep.

I used to suffer from terrible headaches. I would come home from work and I would feel all dizzy, with a severe pain in my eyes and forehead. I sit in front of a computer for more than 8 hours so you can only imagine the chaos that is happening inside my head. On top of that, I’d go to the gym or do pilates every night and when it was time to go to bed, I wasn’t capable of doing anything but just take a pill and pray to God I’d be able to get up in the morning. That much stress and pain. My husband was cranky, I was all confused, afraid and nervous most of the time until I discovered the healing power of essential oils. After getting that little bottle of magic and doing a wellness ritual with a relaxing head and body massage every night for just one week, my life turned around. All kinds of good things started happening; headaches were history, body soar was no longer troubling me and I felt amazing! Literally, zero-stress condition.

However, just getting an essential oil is not enough. At first I thought that a drop of it on the end of my fingertips and massaging my forehead while I was still obsessing about my tasks for tomorrow was enough. That’s why there were hardly any results. The trick is in knowing how to choose the right blends of essential oils for targeting more problem areas and knowing how to apply them.

Basically, the magic in essential oils happens in the chemistry of their contents: despite having amazing healing powers as a result of their restorative nature, essential oils have fragrances that stimulate brain chemistry, emotional well-being and spiritual wellness. Now, to get all this things for real, with maximum quality and purity of the product, you’ll have to be very attentive. Since there’s no governmental regulation for the production of essential oils, you’ll need to be careful how you choose your oils:

  • avoid buying them from a drugstore;
  • cheap price means low quality;
  • fragrance oils are not essential aromatherapy oils;
  • oils without expiration date aren’t good because despite common misconceptions, nature does expire.

Another thing to keep in mind is not to choose your essential oils randomly; every type of oil has its purpose. For instance, tea tree is a powerful antiseptic, anti-viral and antifungal. It’s good for acne, burns and cold sores. Rosemary on the other hand, is an energizing oil perfect for combating fatigue and muscle aches. And then there are blends of essential oils that are designed to affect your mood, your spiritual well being and similar conditions. So, know exactly what problem you need to target before you choose your oil.

Application is even more important. Although essential oils really do wonders, you can’t expect them to be your magic stick; you still need to put your mental state in for an aromatherapy and really enjoy the whole experience. Add basic meditation to it and you’ll feel reborn afterwards.

Do not allow yourself to forget the old saying: your body is your temple and you’re responsible for its well-being. Nurture yourself.
